Marine Renewables Canada 2022 Conference Celebrates Accomplishments and What’s to Come

Last week we not only held the 2022 Marine Renewables Canada conference in Halifax, we celebrated what’s been accomplished and what’s to come for marine renewable energy in Canada.

It wasn’t so long ago that offshore wind was just mused about, but not thought of as a key contributor to Canada’s energy transition. It also wasn’t long ago that harnessing the tides in the Bay of Fundy seemed out of reach and now we have devices delivering electricity to the grid every day, with more to follow. Only a year ago at Marine Renewables Canada’s 2021 conference, we pondered what offshore wind and green hydrogen could mean for Canada. There is now legislation being developed, an offshore wind target in place, active project planning, and a hydrogen action plan under development. This is where optimism, collaboration, and perseverance gets you. But more importantly, it’s what needs to happen to reduce emissions and achieve net zero goals. Canada will need to tap into all of its renewable energy resources, including those from our oceans and rivers.
