Marine Renewables Canada Welcomes Spring Economic Update Measures Supporting Sector Vision 2050 Priorities

Ottawa (Ontario), April 28, 2026 - Marine Renewables Canada (MRC) welcomes the Federal Government’s Spring Economic Update 2026, which includes several measures aligned with the priorities identified in MRC’s Marine Renewable Energy Sector Vision 2050. MRC’s Vision 2050 identifies marine renewable energy – offshore wind, tidal, wave, and river current – as a key pillar of Canada’s clean energy future, capable of strengthening grid reliability, reducing diesel dependence in remote and Indigenous communities, supporting clean fuel production and data centres, and creating long-term economic opportunities across provinces. The Spring Economic Update advances several areas that directly support our Vision, including continued progress on nation-building projects through the Major Projects Office, the implementation of One Project, One Review agreements, the Clean Economy Investment Tax Credits (ITCs), the Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program, the $51 billion Build Communities Strong Fund, the $6 billion Trade Infrastructure Strategy, and new investment attraction tools such as the Canada Strong Fund and Canada’s first Investment Summit. “The Spring Economic Update signals that Canada is moving in the right direction. Building the infrastructure, workforce, investment environment, and regulatory certainty will be critical to unlocking the full potential of marine renewable energy,” said Elisa Obermann, Executive Director of Marine Renewables Canada. MRC is particularly encouraged by the government’s continued focus on accelerating major projects, attracting private investment, expanding skilled trades capacity, supporting Indigenous communities, and strengthening trade-enabling infrastructure. These priorities are essential to advancing offshore wind, tidal, wave, and river current energy projects at the scale required to meet Canada’s growing electricity demand. MRC will continue to work with federal, provincial, territorial, and Indigenous partners to ensure marine renewable energy is explicitly included in Canada’s clean energy, infrastructure, trade, and industrial strategies.
